GED Test Transcripts – Just The Facts
The GED exam is short for General Educational Development and designed to show educational competency and mastery equivalent to a high school diploma. Each state has particular testing requirements that are met in order to take the equivalency exam. Some require an individual to be 18 years of age or older and most require a photo identification in order to enter the testing area and many will require GED transcripts request be made in writing.
The transcripts consist of several scores covering the various subjects the for which the person was tested. As well as the individual scores there is an average points or percentage result for the examination. The test results called transcripts are necessary to apply for some jobs, and to apply to enter college.
The local testing center which administered the GED examination will usually be responsible for grading and reporting the examination results and so that a GED diploma can be mailed. Though a GED diploma is useful for many purposes such as applying for jobs, it does not meet every need. Entry into college will usually require the transcripts of the original test just as those holding a high school diploma would be required to present transcripts.
Once the person has passed the exam the test results, diploma should be mailed within a few weeks. Individuals taking tests in correctional facilities or the military may have different procedures. While a study course may not be required to take this exam, studying prior to testing may eliminate the need to retest or increase the overall scores for the individual. In many cases there is an additional fee to retake any part of the examination. Some states will also require a waiting period or evidence of remedial studies to retake all or part of this exam.
Replacement exam transcripts may be necessary of the original has been replaced or was not received. The local testing center a good place to ask where to request a replacement transcript. The testing center will usually have the address to write, or phone number for the central agency from which to request a replacement transcript.
It is important to remember that the address of the agency issuing replacement exam transcripts is often not the same as the testing center where the exam was taken. Some states may issue all transcripts from an educational agency governed by the state. In a few places a GED transcript can be requested by phone but most times a written request is required.
